6 Steps to Your Painting
Using your pencil, draw a large triangle in the center of the canvas for the tree. Add a star shape at the top. Draw a wavy line across the bottom for the snow. Finally, draw 4 small square/rectangular shapes on the snow on either side of the tree trunk area for the gift boxes.
Use Ultramarine to fill in the night sky background area. Wash your brush well, then use Titanium White to fill in the snowy area at the bottom. You can follow the wavy line to create a sense of deep, fluffy snow.
Fill the large triangle with Sap Green. While the green is still wet, gently sweep a tiny bit of Lemon Yellow along the edges to create highlights and dimension. Use Burnt Umber to paint the rectangular tree trunk at the bottom center.
Paint the far-left and far-right boxes with Scarlet Red. Paint the second box from the left with Lemon Yellow. Mix a little Titanium White into your Ultramarine to make a light blue, and use it to paint the third box.
Fill the star at the top with Lemon Yellow. Paint colorful round ornaments on the tree using Scarlet Red, Lemon Yellow, and your light blue mix. Using a fine brush, add cross ribbons and bows to the gifts (yellow ribbon on red, red on yellow, dark blue on light blue, and green on red).
Using your fine brush and Titanium White, paint thin, draped wavy lines across the tree for the string lights. Finally, dot the night sky with various sizes of white dots to create magical falling snow. Your festive Christmas painting is done! 🎉
